Oxycodone Dosage

Take oxycodone exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Follow the directions on your prescription label carefully. Your doctor will determine the best dose for you. The dosage of oxycodone must be individualized.

The typical dosages of this drug for adults with pain are as follows:

Initial Dose:

Immediate release form: 5 milligrams (mg) to 15 mg, every four to six hours

Controlled release form: 10 mg every 12 hours

Maintenance Dose:

Immediate release form: 10 mg to 30 mg, every four hours.

If you take oxycodone extended-release tablets, swallow them whole. Do not chew, break, divide, crush, or dissolve them.

If you are taking the concentrated form of this medicine, your doctor may advise that you mix it with a small amount of juice or semi-solid food such as pudding or applesauce.

Side Effects

Side effects that you should report to your doctor or health care professional as soon as possible:

allergic reactions like skin rash, itching or hives, swelling of the face, lips, or tongue
breathing problems
confusion
signs and symptoms of low blood pressure like dizziness; feeling faint or lightheaded, falls; unusually weak or tired
trouble passing urine or change in the amount of urine
trouble swallowing

constipation
dry mouth
